Good Friday, indeed

On Friday, Jim, who never gets any holidays off, had the day off, so we had a day of eating yummy food from trucks and attempting various sporting activities.

I’ve wanted to try Viva las Vegans for a long time. It’s an all-vegan lunch truck on Drexel’s campus (33rd between Market and Chestnut, to be precise). Unfortunately their shake machine wasn’t working, though that solved the problem of having to decide if I wanted a chocolate or butterfinger shake. I was able to enjoy a bacon burger with cheddar, which was delicious and sort of reminiscent of fast food (in a good way, if you can imagine that). Though it was decently sized, I wanted more (isn’t that always the way?) and went back for a hot dog. Yummy stuff and decent prices.

After lunch we went to Strikes to indulge my Wii-induced bowling urge. The results were less than spectacular. At first I tried the bowling ball ramp they provided, but it felt like something you’d see at the Special Olympics.

I preferred throwing it from the side of my chair. Though I’m shaking my head here, this was actually one of my more successful shots (yes, I used bumpers, lest my score not reach double digits):

Jim beat me with about double my score both times (which never happens in Wii, dammit!). But I had fun and I’m glad I tried. FYI, Strikes is kind of shabby on the inside, though I can’t imagine any nighttime-focused establishment looks great in broad daylight. If you’re looking for the nice, non-sketchy, upscale-y bowling experience, check out Lucky Strike Lanes downtown.

We wrapped up our great Friday with a stroll through Wissahickon Valley Park. It was brief, as my arms were tired and little sticks and such are not kind to the 4″ caster wheels on my new chair.

Nice ‘bowlin’ form. Im glad you had fun. T

  2. Why the knock on Special Olympics? Special Olympics does indeed have bowling as a sport and a great many skilled bowlers at that. Please visit our website to learn more. Thank you.

  3. Sorry, thought the URL would come through.

  4. Thanks Tina :) and Ryan, I didn’t knock the Special Olympics, just mentioned it. It’s a great organization, but not for me as I don’t have an intellectual disability.
