A refreshing change

I was about to get into my car at the gym today when I heard “Miss?” I looked up, ready to bust out my usual “No, thanks, I don’t need any help” (like I’ve mentioned before, I get asked if I need help putting my chair in my car about 5 times a day). Then I notice the guy is wearing a National Wheelchair Basketball Association shirt. We discussed adaptive sports and he mentioned wheelchair basketball and tennis programs at Magee Rehab, which he is apparently affiliated with. With him as a contact, I plan to check out these programs and hopefully get involved.

And he didn’t ask if I needed help- likely because, as someone who works with active wheelchair users, he knew that I was fine on my own. Thanks, random gym guy, for being a nice change of pace (and introducing me to new sports).

  1. You don’t look like a basketball or tennis player… Maybe adaptive stripping, Nygel has the perfect pole…

  2. Hahah. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll have to call Nygel and investigate the possibilities.
